Support
Fortunately, there are
many resources, both local and national, available to
patients and their families to help provide support
after the diagnosis of cancer has been made.
Local breast cancer groups
are an essential-and growing-resource in Central Wisconsin,
include the "After Reach Group",
which meets at the University of Wisconsin Cancer Center
in Wausau. The group meets monthly from 6:30 - 7:30
p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Further information
is available at 715-847-2429.
Although help is always
available from professionals, sometimes its just important
to speak with someone who has been there like you.
Books,
pamphlets and a wide array of internet sites offer volumes of
information about breast cancer care and research.
Surfing the web for breast cancer information can lead
to information overload, and can be overwhelming for
patients. Fortunately, selected sites have dedicated
themselves to helping patients become informed.
Specialized boutiques
are available in the Wausau area to assist patients
with appropriate apparel after surgery and wigs for
those who need them during chemotherapy.
